Hi, I'm Phillip.
I'm a British-South African journalist and editor working mostly around international affairs, business, technology, and the environment, with newsrooms in several countries.
I have started print and online publications, managed investigations, and fought fake news. I have been a radio and TV talking head. I have also perpetrated quite a lot of honest journalism about all kinds of things.
These days I write columns about global affairs for a mass audience, and technology for a B2B audience in South Africa. I'm also a part time associate editor at The Stack in the UK.
You can find me on LinkedIn, and I have a Substack blog called Signal and State.
I published the book Write Risky: How to write for impact in the age of AI as a call for risk-adjusted writing to fight bland conformity – with some cheap (in terms of time) and nasty (in terms of impact) tricks to do it easily.
